Community schocked over death of beloved dance instructor
BY JACOB BROOKS The Daily News
BOGALUSA - Dance instructor Ashley Perrin would cut out little hearts made of construction paper for her students to tuck in their shoes when they danced. She told her students the little piece of paper ensured that "my heart is always with you, and to keep my angels on their feet" said Kelly Ard, a Varnado resident whose daughter has been receiving dance lessons from Perrin for the last eight years.
Ard and countless other area residents were shocked to hear the news earlier this week that Perrin, 25, was killed in a car crash.
"Total devastation," Ard said of the reaction in the dance community.
Perrin and her parents, Marguerite and Barry, and sister, Brooke, ran All That Jazz, a dance studio in south Bogalusa. The family gained national attention last year when Marguerite starred in "Trading Spouses: Meet Your New Mommy" on the Fox Network. Ashley and rest of the family were also on the show.
There are about 200 children who currently attend the dance studio, and at least 500 or more have come through since the business opened in 1999, Ard said. And Perrin touched the lives of them all.
"If a child had low self esteem, she would build that child's self esteem," said Ard, who had to pause when thinking about how special Perrin was. "There are just no words to describe her because she's such a unique person."
Perrin took her students to national competitions, helped instruct the dance team at Franklinton High, and her local recitals would always sell out, Ard said. She was inspirational and had a big impact on the lives of her students, Ard added.
Perrin, a Ponchatoula resident, was driving a mini-van about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday when she crashed into a guardrail along a service road of Interstate 55, Ponchatoula Police Department Lt. Raymond Mauterer said. Perrin was driving alone, on her way to pick up her 8-year-old daughter, Abigail, from school. She was ejected from the vehicle and was dead by the time rescuers arrived, police said. Perrin was not wearing a seat belt.
Mauterer said Perrin was also well-known dance instructor in the Ponchatoula community.
"She was a very good person. She loved to dance," he said. "It was very unfortunate."
A memorial service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Vintage Court, 75082 Hwy 25, in Covington.
"We're going to celebrate her life," Ard said. "Her life was a dance."
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Abigail G. Allen Fund at First Guaranty Bank. Condolences may be sent to: condolence@bellsouth.net / subject line: Perrin.

The Art Of The Business Lunch (Business Basics)
Forbes.com Published 09/05/06
By Tara weiss
If you think eating lunch at your desk day in and day out builds your rep as an industrious employee or manager, think again. Keeping your nose to the grindstone may actually be costing you money and career advancement.
Dean Olinger knows the value of a good working lunch. As the owner of Wireless Giant, which sells mobile phones, plans and accessories in Sarasota, Fla., he's made a point of attending the local chamber of commerce's weekly lunch. The result: an average of ten phone activations per month, all as a result of chewing and chatting with other business owners. "You might as well go someplace where you know you'll meet people and do some business," says Olinger. "We advertise on television and in local papers, but nothing substitutes for face-to-face interaction."

Reality stars face true tribal council: 5,000 fans
By KEN BECK
Staff Writer
Will 100 reality TV stars stand up to the challenge of wrestling 5,000 fans for two days in a Music City hotel? Just call it Survivor: Nashville as the world's first Reality TV Convention shapes up for a two-day marathon with such events as autograph signing, hand shaking, camera-flash smiling and answer-the-same-question 100 times.
Joe Reality, aka Joe Blackmon, and Marc Ballard, organizers of the event, say approximately 100 stars of various reality TV shows are expected for the June 3-4 event at the Nashville Airport Marriott, and they anticipate 5,000 fans to attend. "Fans will get the chance to meet the reality stars they have seen on TV, talk to them, get autographs and interact with them and other reality TV fans as well," says Brentwood's Blackmon, creator of the Web site www.realitytvmagazine.com.
Players from such shows as The Apprentice, Amazing Race, American Idol, Big Brother, The Biggest Loser, Real World, The Real Gilligan's Island and Survivor have already signed on. (A partial listing of scheduled guests is at www.realitytvconvention.com.)
"So far 63 reality stars have agreed to come. About 25% of them are Tennessee residents: Tina Wesson, a Survivor winner; M.J. Garrett of Real World and The Gauntlet 2; several from The Biggest Loser; and Kimberly Caldwell and Jessica Sierra of American Idol," says Blackmon. "We've gotten a lot of early interest. A lot of reality TV fan clubs are planning to come. We're estimating in the neighborhood of 5,000 fans."
Ballard, who runs Comic City in Madison and has organized numerous comic book and horror film conventions, saw the idea of a reality TV convention as a chance to "do something that no one has ever done before." And with so many Tennesseans popping up on reality shows, Ballard thinks Nashville was a natural location. "It just seems like every time you see a reality show, there's somebody from Tennessee on there. At first you think it's just a good ol' boy or girl, but half the time that person beats out the city slickers."
Burton Roberts, a top five finisher in Survivor: Pearl Islands, is also enthusiastic. "Absolutely, this will draw a ton of fans. I believe it's going to be an excellent event. . . . In my case, Survivor was an amazing experience. The least I can do is talk with fans who love to hear more about behind the scenes." Roberts has his own company in Los Angeles, Reality Trips, which offers fans adventure trips with reality stars.
Blackmon says his media venture began humbly. "I started out as just your average reality TV fan with an idea," he says. Today, his Web site draws nearly a million hits per month, he adds. Blackmon's hobby hooked him up with stars and network executives, including Fox Reality, a charter sponsor of the event. "We thought this would be a good thing to do," David Lyle, chief operating officer and general manager of Fox Reality, said from Los Angeles, adding that a crew from the cable channel would be in Nashville for the event.
"We have a daily show, Reality Remix, which covers the world of reality, and so this could be the biggest gathering of stars of reality since the genre began. We certainly need to be there. We think the reality genre is as healthy as it's ever been." Fox Reality, which is dedicated to reality programming from all the major networks, goes into an estimated 18.5 million homes.

World’s First Ever Reality TV Convention Coming To Nashville, Tennessee
Nashville, Tennessee might be best known for country music, but early this Summer the city will get a new claim to fame. On June 3 & 4, 2006, the world’s first ever Reality TV Convention will be held in Nashville, Tennessee. The Reality TV Convention looks to be the largest gathering of reality TV stars and reality TV fans ever.
Joe Reality of Reality TV Magazine along with reality TV stars M.J. Garrett from the Real World and Mandy Weaver from The Real Gilligan’s Island appeared on Nashville’s More At Midday on Wednesday, January 25 to officially announce the event to the Nashville community. While conventions for fans of comic books, sci-fi, horror, and even Pez dispensers are common place, no one has ever tried to put on a convention for reality TV fans before.
With American Idol setting ratings records and shows like Survivor entering their twelfth season, the organizers of the Reality TV Convention felt that the time had come to put on an event that would allow reality TV fans to gather to discuss their favorite reality TV shows and to meet some of their favorite reality TV stars.
The Reality TV Convention will feature approximately 100 reality TV stars from shows such as The Apprentice, Amazing Race, American Idol, Big Brother, The Biggest Loser, Forever Eden, Kept, Real World, Road Rules, The Real Gilligan’s Island, and Survivor. A partial listing of over sixty of the reality TV stars already scheduled to appear at the event can be found at www.realitytvconvention.com.
Fox Reality, the only ALL REALITY, ALL THE TIME channel dedicated to reality programming from all the major networks has signed on as a charter sponsor of the Reality TV Convention. The channel offers major US network favorites, international reality programming, and original series and specials. Fox Reality offers reality viewers more depth of information on their favorite reality programming with “Reality Revealed” featuring unseen footage, insight, exclusive interviews and simply more reality fun. Fox Reality recently debuted in an estimated 18.5 million homes, which is one of the largest launches ever for a new network.
Fox Reality is planning to film at the Reality TV Convention for their new Reality Remix show. Reality Remix is a daily Fox Reality Original program hosted by former MTV Host, Kennedy, offering a recap of everything going on in the world of reality television.
Other early sponsors of the event include TheFishbowl.com, TVGrapevine.com, Amax Talent, Esterman Entertainment, ND Productions, and RealitySpeaking.com.
More information about the Reality TV Convention can be found on the official Reality TV Convention website located at www.realitytvconvention.com.
